Who can join Healthy Families

Who may qualify?

  • Children up to their 19th birthday.
  • Children in the family without employer-sponsored health insurance in the last three months.
  • Children living in California.
  • Children who are not eligible for or are enrolled in no-cost Medi-Cal.
  • Children who meet citizenship or immigration rules.
  • Children born to mothers enrolled in the Access for Infants and Mothers (AIM) Program, who are not enrolled in the no-cost full scope Medi-Cal Program or employer-sponsored health insurance.
  • Children in families with incomes within the Healthy Families Guidelines.
  • San Benito County employees are not eligible for Healthy Families as the county provides a generous medical benefit to all employees.

Who can apply?

Please note, if you are a San Benito County employee, you do not qualify and therefore may not apply for Health Families. San Benito County has a generous medical benefit for all employees and their families which excludes them from Healthy Families. Parents, legal guardians, stepparents, foster parents or caretaker relatives may apply for insurance for a child living in their home. Only the parents’ income will be considered. If you are a legal guardian, stepparent, foster parent or caretaker relative who lives with a child, your income will not be used to qualify the child for Healthy Families.

If you are age 18 or under, you may qualify to apply for your own insurance if you meet the income requirements.

Minors who do not live with parents, legal guardians, stepparents, foster parents or caretaker relatives may be eligible for Healthy Families for themselves or their children if they meet all other requirements.
