A service of Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health in collaboration with San Benito County Child Injury Prevention Coalition and its many partners supported by donations, fines and grants.
Child Safety Seats
Checkups
- A “checkup” is an inspection of your child’s safety seat for condition, fit to your child
and the proper installation in your vehicle by certified technicians.
- Held at community locations such as auto dealerships, apartment
complexes through out the year. Contact us (831-637-5367) to
schedule a check up in your neighborhood or for your group.
- Bring your own store-bought car seat. Car seats also available for
low-income families “at cost” sliding scale or donation. The
sustainability of the program depends on support from you.

Fittings
Fit your new car seat for new baby or recheck your installation with education and support from a certified technician.
- Contact San Benito County Public Health Division to schedule an
appointment at 831-637-5367 or email us for service in Hollister.
- Contact the California Highway Patrol (CHP) for services in Gilroy at

Classes and presentations

Education
- Safety education is offered through special events and classes throughout the community.
- Email us to schedule Child Passenger Safety Classes and
Presentations for preschool/family childcare children, parents,
providers.
- Email us to schedule Child Passenger Safety Presentations for other
community groups/organizations.
- Safe Moves City - A miniature “city” for teaching young children the
basics of street safety. The “street” includes pedestrian crossings,
train crossings, driveways, alleys, dogs and other hazards. Requires
volunteers to help setup, conduct the training and take down.

Also “Safe Moves City” is offered through special events. Order pamphlets and videos pamphlets and videos on car seats and bicycle safety in English or Spanish.

Helmets
Helmets should be worn by all ages on any wheeled toy or sports
equipment.
- Helmets are required in Hollister
and San Benito County by
Daniel’s Law.
- All types of helmets are available
for sale at reduced prices for any
child or adult in the community.
- Helmets must be fitted at the time of
sale.
